GATE

A national aptitude examination used for selected postgraduate, doctoral and recruitment pathways.

What should I check?

  • GATE 2026 is conducted by IISc and the IITs on behalf of the National Coordination Board.
  • Qualifying can support applications to selected postgraduate or doctoral programmes, subject to each institution.
  • Some public-sector employers may use GATE scores; check the current notice rather than assuming eligibility.
Is this exam required?

That depends on the course, institution, state and current admission cycle. Treat this as one route to investigate, not a universal requirement.

Eligibility and scope

Check the academic subjects, marks and category rules for the course and institution you are targeting. Exam eligibility is separate from course eligibility.

State, institution and current-cycle rules can differ. Do not rely on a previous year’s dates or cutoff.

Typical application journey

  1. Read the current official notification
  2. Register and submit the application
  3. Download the admit card and take the exam or selection step
  4. Check result/score and follow the applicable counselling or institution process
  5. Complete document verification and admission

What happens next?

After the exam, the score may feed into rank, counselling or an institution decision. Confirm the exact process with the current authority and participating institution.
